Removing Headlight Switch

Know how to get the stem out and remove the circuits from the switch.

How the heck do you get the switch out? I do not see how to rotate the bezel, but I figure the switch is threaded onto to it somehow.

I am replacing the switch to get the dash lights to work, though I just saw Fordman's advice that if the dome light works, the rheostat works.

I think you stick a screwdriver in there and rotate it. I would like to know because I have a new switch for mine too.

You can use a large, flat blade screwdriver or a pair of needle nose pliers if you're careful.

if the dome light works the rheostat in the switch must be wokring. that is when yo uturn the knob to the left. if you have door swithces the doem light will still work. without the rheostat . i think.

Sorry to disagree.

The rheostat controls the dash lights, but it has a single contact at the far left (counterclockwise) position for the dome light.

The rheostat for the dash lights can be toast, and the dome light will still work.

Thanks for the link to the thread. I may ask for that tool at the parts store today, since my flatheads are not wide enough and my needle-nose is not needle enough. I would hate to ruin the bezel, and I want this to be the only headlight switch replacement for this truck.

I dropped back and punted. After buying some snap-ring pliers, thinking they would work, I thought better of it and ordered the tool from the Bronco site.

The tool plus shipping cost $25, while the replacement swith was only $16.

The bezel tool may be up for sale here, as soon as I replace my switch.

No...you can reach up under the dash to access the switch for removal.

Last time I order a tool online without knowing the dimensions, etc. The bezel removal tool was not the right size for the 67 light switch. Ended up using an old corner brace from a wood project -- fit like an OEM. Hope the Bronco folks will give me the refund -- I will have to eat the shipping charges.

I can now see how fast I am going at night, but the lamp(s) for the left side of the instrument cluster are out. I removed the screws for the instrument bezel (only one missing), but I could not, did not, pull the cluster out.

Do I have to remove harnesses, etc. to get to the instrument bulbs?

pull the cluster out. it may only come out so far. but you can reach in there and unscrew the speedometer cable and that will let the cluster come out further. the harness doesnmt have to come off. the light socket snap / push into the back of the cluster.
