What happened to the headlight switch thread?

I saw a thread on here earlier today where Keith posted a picture of the special tool needed to remove the headlight switch nut. Where did the thread go? And where do you get one of those tools?

They might work...but they don't work "well". Messing up the bezel is inevitable unless it's already very loose. If it's already messed up and you're replacing it, then yes you can use needlenose pliers. But don't use them to install a good replacement.

they can be used if you are careful. but i have had them slip. or mess things up before.

That's what I've always used.

I've changed many of them in the last 40 years, and never messed up a single one.

The key is to have the right size needlenose pliers and to be VERRRRRRRRRRRYYYYY careful, or, like you say, you can easily mess up the nut.
