Typically the headlight and parking light circuits are switched separately in the headlight switch (different circuits). The only thing I can figure is that your low beam circuit has a short to ground in it somewhere. I'd start looking at the dimmer switch or the low beam wiring out to the headlights. It could even be a internally shorted headlight bulb.
All these items could cause the circuit breaker in the headlight switch to trip open and disconnect power to both the headlights and parking lights. Although normally, this would cause a flashing scenario as the circuit breaker trips and resets itself.
Can't really say for sure without consulting a wiring diagram for a '57.

If you could put some capital letters and punctuation in there, it would sure be easier to read.57fordf100 wrote:hey guys so my 57 f100 has been acting weird on me every thing was fine till a couple of days ago i turned my headlights on and the didnt turn on not even my dash lights turned on my running lights did tho front and back and when i stepped on the dimmer switch the lights turned on and the dash lights what gives iv been looking fo burned wires or wires that look like there no good and nothing a guy told me it might be my dimmer switch but i wanna be sure before i go buy a new one what can be causing this problem for me when i turn my headlights on they wont turn on and my dash lights wont either when i step on the dimmer switch to hit the high beams they work perfect dash lights n all what can be causing this
