alternator question

i currently have a 38 amp alternator on my 67.. i have a left over alternator that looks identical to my 67's down to the dual grove but instead its at least a 60 amp alternator. It came off a 83 f100 with the 300

would i have any problem wiring wise hooking it up? and would it possibly fry something?

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

its probably the same bolt pattern on the back. im guessing. i havent seen one or paid attention to later alts. it shouldnt fry any thing unlesss its hooked up wrong.

its not so much frying the alt or voltage regulator im worried about, its i dont want wires to melt by putting to much power to them.
I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

some of our trucks came with up to a 55 amp alt i think. so you might be ok.

only problem is all the wiring harnesses i see for those higher amp alternators have a field relay? that turns the power of so the alternator doesn't drain your battery while the switch is off.

That is just that style of alternator setup, it should be just fine the fusible link will blow if you have a problem. I put a 100A on my Mustang and haven't had any problems "Yet" after two years but I'm pushing the max with the stock wiring on it... The 65A alternator I had on it for years that I replaced the stock 45A one with and never had any issues and I'm running electric fan and water pump on it so it is drawing lots of juice. :2cents:

I'm not "Brand Loyal" Ford-Chevy-Dodge-Toyota I have them all, one even cross mixed...
If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
