my 89 merc will flash the parking lights on and off randomly after sitting for a few days.
Any body know how to explain this? i have also noticed that at wierd times i have daytime running lights regardless of weather or lighting conditions. And the rest of the time it's normal. Did 89's have any remotes that could pick up a stray Infrared signal and trip the lights?

I don't want to give em a heart-attack. That is what would happen if I answered the door in the buff. Heck it almost scares me to death when I step out of the shower and look in the mirror.~Mancar1~

I know some Cougars came from the factory with alarms that could flash the parking lights, but I don't think it went back to '89. The headlights switch doesn't use a relay, so all the power goes through the switch. This causes a lot of switches to overheat and fail.
Wait, I think you are saying they are flashing while the car sits, and not in use. That would be odd

yeah it's when it's sitting. Does it mostly during the wee hours of the day when it's twilightish or so. I does have a remote start that is halfway disconnected. I know on the F650 Wrecker the remote start would turn the lights on.

Now that is odd, I checked for a while over at TCCOA but didn't come up with anything quite like that. I will take another look in a few days when work settles down, it's the only time I have to look stuff up latley.

Interesting, I can't find anything anywhere about this one. Unless there is a lighting control module, but I don't believe those are used in these cars. At least I ain't found one in my bird yet.
My guess would be something with the remote start, I think a lot of those units turn the lights on so you know it started.
