ash tray bearing guide?

Post by knut »

I have a '70 F250, the ash tray is missing the bearings that ,I believe, It rides on. I have a few ashtrays from parts trucks. None have the bearings. Could someone explain/show me the proper setup. I have put bearings in out of a '79. they seem to be the right size, but tend to fall out. Thanks

the bearing slide retainer holds the bearigns. when you snap it on to the bottom of the ashtray in hte groove. that is how it holds itself together.

I have the ash tray. the assembly that the ash tray goes in( both have grooves for the bearings to ride in ). 2 bearings. Am I missing a bearing retainer? Is it similar to the set up in the 73-79 Fords ? Thank you fordman for your help.

It takes four bearings and there is a retainer, like Fordman said.

Here's one on ebay, and you can enlarge the photos to get a better idea of what you need:

There are also some photos on the ID page here on this site that may help (the green one on the right is like yours):

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

thanks folks, I've rebuilt my truck from the ground up. Converted it to power steering, dana 60's front & rear, rebuilt big block, etc.,etc.. When I got to the ash tray, I just went brain dead. A giant thanks to all. I have two or three ash trays & assemblies, none of which had the bearing bracket. Hey fordman I am interested in your bearing w/ bracket.
