Door jam weatherstripping

Post by TexasTruck72 »

I recently replaced the original rubber weatherstripping in my 72 f-100 and have had some difficulties with shutting the doors easily. I know that it takes time for the rubber to "set" and flatten out, but I was just curious if anyone else had done this and had similar problems? If so, did you alter the weatherstripping for a better fit or just wait x amount of time till the rubber set?

PS: It's been getting better since I installed the new weatherstripping 2 and a half months ago, but it does take some substancial force to make sure the door closes all the way. I hate to slam any doors, truck or car, but I have to in order to close the doors all the way.

Any replies are appreciated. Thanks.

I wondered about the striker plate also, but it seems like that wouldn't help the hinge side of door squeeze together easier...I have the same issue, although mine seems to be easing up as well....If I drive my truck too often, out of habit I'll hop into my car and practically break the window slamming the door...

My doors are doing the same with new weather stripping. I just figured it would have to break in.
