help out a newbie !!

Post by triggerbilly »

Ok I just got hold of a battery
But i ain't sure how to wire it up
mainly because a previous owner has been playing (i think)
check out the photos and see if you can make out anything
The wire from the far side of the starter rely is attached under the engine somewhere
(is that right ? I thought that went to the ground batt terminal)
any help would be great thanks
here's some pics

Both cables on the solenoid are positive, Battery + to solenoid, opposite terminal to starter. Negative cable goes to the block bolt it up to a clean spot (no paint, grease or grime). The smaller terminals are crank signal from the igntion switch, terminal S. The I terminal (if used )will be to the coil primary hot.
There may be smaller wires with large eye lugs, these are fusible links. The fusible links go on the battery hot side of the solenoid.
Good Luck I hope the PO didn't butcher the wires to badly

if the battery is fully charged and all of the connections all the way to the starter are clean then it just clicks. tap on the solenoid. then if it still does it tap on the starter. if that doesnt work it could be the solenoid or the starter.

suggest a decent grounding point for the main negative battery terminal ?

It grounds directly to the block, on a bolt right behind the alternator.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

:yt: The ground cable should always go to the block, never to the frame. Also, be sure to check that your engine has an engine-to-body ground strap. The factory ground strap ran from the back of the intake manifold to the firewall.
