what do you guys do for heat?

Post by badboyzkustumz »

My 67 f100 is heat challenged currently and I need to change that. Anyone used a newer heating system into our older trucks. Ive got a complete HVAC system from a 90 F250 I was thinking of modifying to squeeze in but wanted opinions. :help:

i havent read of anyone using a different heater in these trucks. for the a/c option i don't know i havent heard of it but making it work would be a different story. i think the 73-79 factory a/c would be a more closer solution to fix the a/c problem. but so would a aftermarket under dash unit.

what is wrong with your current heater? is everything on it? how many rust holes are letting the cold in? is the heater valve stuck half open? is the heater core old and plugged up? what temperature thermostat is in your engine?

Are you saying your truck was ordered without heat or the factory heater dosent work very well? It might have the econo heater in it. I think it consisted of a on/off switch for the blower.

The stock heater setup will run you out of the cab as long as everything is functioning properly. If it was me I wouldn't go trying to fit something in there that was never meant to be, when you can easily find the correct pieces and just bolt them in. Since heater boxes aren't something that sell very often, I'd imagine there are many people here on the forums with parts trucks who'd let you have one pretty inexpensively.

Replace your heater core if it is old, even if it is not leaking it will have reduced flow from build up inside. My truck had decent heat when I first got it. After the core started leaking and got replaced, the heater will now roast you out within 5 minutes. Amazing difference.

You can also upgrade your blower fan: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =6&t=41940

Fix any levers and doors that are not working in your heater box.

Clean out any leaves and debris on the intake side of your heater box.

Fix or temporarily plug rusted cab corners and floor boards.

Replace the weatherstripping around your doors.

Any of these things will greatly improve the heat inside your cab.

Another member ( :? ) posted a link to a bronco forum that the members replaced there blower motors with ones from a 78 Chevy pickup. Some used the wheel from the chevy some didn't. Both applications reported amazing differences. I ordered the stuff from Autozone and am going to give it a whirl. I'm not to happy  about using the GM parts but we'll see.

Like Keith said, a stock heater in good working order will toast you. Cooling system maintenance is key to having a good heating system. Corrosion and mineral build-up is hard enough on a heater but sometimes guys will use Stop-leak to fix a radiator pinhole and wind up sealing up their heater core without knowing it. Stop-leak should only be used in extreme emergencies.

Here is my pickup and the two smaller hoses on the passenger side of the engine bay are the heater hoses, one goes to the top of the intake manifold and the other runs to the water pump. The hose that runs from the heater to the intake is were my heater valve has gone since I have owned it.
