Are you positive that the A/C is add-on?
The factory air on these trucks looks very much like an add-on.
A pic of the unit would help to make sure!!

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak

Re: heater core replacemnt
Mine doesn't have AC but on mine it's pretty easy.
From under the hood: Drain the radiator, remove the heater hoses from the heater core inlet and outlet located on the driver's side of the firewall. Remove the 3 nuts near the inlet and outlet tubes. The heater assembly should fall away from the inside of the firewall.
From inside: Disconnect the heater hoses and the boot that connects the heater to the outside air on the passenger's side. You should be able to pull the heater assembly out enough to remove the core without disconnecting the cables.
The hardest part of the job is reattaching the rubber boot.

Hell I just had 2 bolts and stuck them in the end of the hose so I did not have to fool with the radiator.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
