Need help with turn signal switch in '66.

I bought a new one - the correct one I think, with a C9 p/n - but the wires are not the same colours as the old. Can anyone tell me how to wire this in?

before you install the tss in the coulmn figure out what wires go to what. the blue with yellow is probably horn. yellow and green would be turn siugnals black with red strike would be power in and to the brake lights. you can also look at the wiring diagrams to help with color that dont match up to your orignal harness.

if your truck is 66 w/stock column, that's wrong PN switch. Ford "C" first letter is 1960s. second digit is year, so C9 would indicate 1969 or later use. Sounds like you need to take it back and make sure they order right one and you won't have to figure out why the wires aren't right.

how bizarre, so he took his stock 66 switch and the part number on it starts with C9 and it was produced prior to 66 and installed in a 66? I guess I provided bad steer and the wiring should all hook up like stock. Sounded feasible to me he'd been given a 69 or later part number switch and that's why some wires weren't matching, but what do I know I've been fighting turn signal switch problem for months off and on. I know how parts stores are fond of giving you wrong product and insisting it's right, so sounded feasible. my bad.

Your assumption was not a bad one.

Generally, a part number for a Ford indicates the first year it was used. Updates are indicated by a change in the suffix.

However, in some cases, updates to a part get a newer prefix.

Go figure, it's Ford!!!

from what i understand is. the part number changes were for major and minor revisions to a part. a minor revision could be just a adding of a letter to the end of the part number. a major change could make the prefix to the number change.

I found the box. The number on it is C9TZ-13341-C. I got this number from a friend who has used it successfully on his fleet, but he says the wires' colours on his new switches were always the same as the old. I suppose I could put the switches side by side and trace them but I can't really tell the grey from blue from green on the old one...Any ideas?

the easiest wayto figure this out is too look at which wires go to what on the switch itself. once you know what they are for the wires in your truck will have to be figured out. once they are known what they go to. you just have to plug them in. you could also do this by trial and error also. plug in the colors that match and then start guessing. test everything and sooner or later the wires will mate up and everything will work properly. . have you checked www.fordtruk.com for wiring diagrams for your 66?

i just put my sorry a@#$ in the same boat. i really should have done my homework before getting in to this. i really wish here was a helpful direction for this massive confusion. im lost now, i remove one wire at a time from OE connector and installed the aftermarket pins base off of what wire went to on the switch. the only thing i got right was the horn connections. i got hazzard lights when level is in the middle and opposite turn signals, right is left and left is right but no turn flashes in the rear lights. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
