re: Goodbye FTE - Hello FORDification.com

Post by FORDification »

Yeah, back about a year before I bought my current '67 F100, I got my hands on a '51 Studebaker pickup, and wanted to make it more streetable. I had a friend who had a Ford pickup so I decided to mount the Stude body on the Ford chassis, and signed up over there to get a few answers to questions I had, signing up as '51stude'. Once I scrapped the idea of the Ford chassis, I bought a Chevy crewcab chassis to mount it on instead. Completely forgot about my membership there until about a year later when I bought my Ford, and the day I bought the truck I posted a message in a Ford truck newsgroup asking for resources to research what I had. And in fact it was 'jor' who answered my post and sent me to FTE. (Don't worry, buddy...no hard feelings.) ;)

As I was researching my truck, I started buying parts trucks and found I was able to answer a lot of questions over there, and did....until I got disgusted at not being allowed to give FULL answers to posts because it often involved mentioning a vendor they didn't get along with, plus I just got sick and tired of all the freakin' politics, bickering, etc., and started my own forum....which of course suddenly turned me into "competition", and I was immediately sacked.

Oh well....it was the best thing that could have happened, 'cause I decided right then I was gonna put something together that truck owners could actually USE! And look at us now!....nearly 900 members in just under two years!! (This coming November 28th is actually the two-year birthdate of the original forum, which we used for about 8 months before the site and forums got a new home and the forums expanded considerably.)

sharkdance: of course I'm a little biased, but I definitely think you made the right decision, and you're more than welcome to stick around as long as you like. I do pop in there from time to time, and I get sick to my stomach at all the misinformation that gets posted as fact almost every day. But hey, it's not like we're not easy to find on Google....in fact, FORDification ranks higher than the Dark Side in almost every Ford-truck-related search, because Google's returns are based more on popularity (the links that people actually click on and return to) then anything else. So I guess that says something as well. :D

Someday I would....but the Ford was bought as a replacement for the 'Stude. I wanted to build something that wasn't going to require a lot of fabrication. After it's done I need to get back to work on my 442. It's been under a cover in a corner of the shop for way too long! Maybe after I retire....if that ever happens. ;)

what year 442? there was a time when I lived, ate, slept, dreamed, and thought about nothing except Oldsmobiles.

I terrorized the neighborhood with a '66 Vista Criuser.
Olds 350 with forged 330 crank, a th350 in place of the original 2spd jetaway. Cutlass disk brakes, a ford 9" (even then I could spot a good rear end  ) with 4.10 gears.
1969 F100 300/4spd power steering, manual brakes

Mine's a '67. Here's a picture of it right after I finished building a 455 for it back about 12-13 years ago, but about a week or two after the car was running I broke a cylinder head, and the car got put into storage. I pulled it out of storage several years ago and got started on a complete frame-off. The frame is stripped and painted, the suspension pieces are powdercoated and waiting for me to get started pressing in the bushings. Got all new stainless brake and fuel lines ready to install as well. It HAD a new interior before putting it into storage, but mice got to everything, so it'll have to be stripped and replaced. But this is the other vehicle that I never intend to get rid of. :D

In fact, it's this car that led to my creating OLDSmobility.com, which is a site very similar to FORDification, except that it's specifically about '67 Olds Cutlass/442.

Greetings,

How can I cancell my free user account? I have already figured out how to delete my galleries but I would also like to delete my posts and forum ID as well.

I have found another forum called FORDification.com and no longer wish to participate in this one.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Not to get way off subject, but you guys were talking about Studebakers. I had a '51 Stude bulletnose starlight coupe once upon a time. I enjoyed that car while I had it. Thing is that the guy I bought it from had 20 to 30 more parked right where mine was. Business coupes, commander 4 doors, trucks, all right at 50 to 51. He crushed them ALL and they were in nice shape. That day a grown man wanted to cry. I could have easily got them for salvage price he said. He didn't know I would be interested!?!?! PUKE I wanted to.
