No brake lights
Hello to all. I need help! My tail lights turn on and the rear signals work, BUT my brake lights don't turn on when I hit the brakes. I Pushed the brake light switch by hand and nothing. When the tail lights are on and I hit the brakes the light just flicker for a second. I noticed that the red wire from the brake switch was twisted up with two other red wires. I attached some pics. Help please!

Re: No brake lights
Bad switch, It has contacts on the side not on the bottom. So no matter how far the peddle goes down it makes contact. Just short the two wires at the back of the switch and check the brake lites. If that does not turn them on the turn signal switch can be bad or the wires going to the turn signal switch or coming out of it.
What year truck do you have as there are two different turn signal wiring schemes?
If you put your truck particulars in the signature of your profile we won't have to ask.

Wire 810 feeds the turn signal switch that then feeds the tail lights. Do you have a test probe or meter?

Re: No brake lights
I took a closer look and and there's a red wire coming from the fuse box that is spliced to the red wire on the brake light switch. only 2 wires not three. The truck has factory ac so its hard to look up under the dash.

Re: No brake lights
Yep after about 20 years the Brake light switch fails in city driving yet the TSS fails about every 30 from plastic faliure but that is why I said short the switch wires together. Then you don't have to guess.fordman wrote:sounds like a loose wire to me. or a loose connection in the tss. i was bettign on the brake light switch this morning also. trace that added in red wire and see what it goes to.

Re: No brake lights
Thanks for all the info everyone! Here is a pic of the red wire that is spliced into the brake light switch red wire. It comes from the fuse box.

Re: No brake lights
Where does the red wire go that is spliced at the switch. Is it the same one that is stuck in the fuse block?

Yes its the same wire. It comes from the fuse box and splices with the red brake light sensor wire.Dragon wrote:Where does the red wire go that is spliced at the switch. Is it the same one that is stuck in the fuse block?
