Wiring Connectors and Mods

Post by Chasbod »

After deciding to just patch and repair my harness and save the expense of buying a replacement, I ran across some things which hopefully might be of help to anyone thinking the same.

Here are a couple of links to companies selling the multi pin connectors that are common in different sections of the harness:

http://www.source-products.com/public_h ... inline.htm

http://order.waytekwire.com/products2/M ... ONNECTORS/

Also, if you need to fix those door switch connectors with new pins, all you have to do is find a donor terminal connector like the one for the turn signal/horn wiring harness, use the tool like the one in the pic (or a piece of hollow brass tubing) to remove the male pin from the connector (have to get the right tube diameter to depress the little tang that secures the male pin in the housing) and splice it into the door switch harness. I think there are some websites where they sell just those pins too but I didn't chase that route. LMC sells the actual door switch connector socket (47-0625) if you need that.

One problem I did encounter was the LMC replacement Door switch. The plunger doesn't depress far enough (the originals go flat to the base) and when i closed the door it pushed all the guts out the back. They show a different one for the 67's so maybe I need that one or just go to Dennis Carpenter.

I picked up a decent tip that suggested using a battery charger instead of the battery to test out the harness once I get everything connected. If something is wrong the battery charger will be a lot more forgiving than the available amps from the battery. I think this is mainly for all the small stuff...obviously not for the starter or blower motor.

Sorry, I never saw the question before now. I got the LMC ones, they seem to work when they want to.
