In dash speaker

Post by rdaniel911 »

Does anyone make a speaker that will fit the stock location and bracket for the in dash speaker for a 68 bump. She wants it back just like it was when her dad was driving it and this is another part I'm having trouble finding.

I took my old one and got a replacement speaker at Radio Shack. I can't remember the size but they had several to choose from depending on how much you want to spend.

I tried one of those from Custom Auto Sound (2-in 1 style) and never got to use it. They assured me that it would fit in the factory opening. It did not, nor would they take it back.

It wouldn't be that hard to fab up a bracket if you have a sheet metal break or a vise.

If they are 5"x7"'s then this link should help you outhttp://www.crutchfield.com/g_51900/5-x7 ... p=93&avf=N, this company is probably one of the best companies to order any audio equipment from , my dad has purchased many things from them and they have great customer service, and could probably help you find anything you need :D.

If you still have the old speaker it may be repairable. The paper cone in mine was torn in several places and had pulled away from the metal frame. I diluted Elmer's glue and dipped pieces of paper towel in it and put it over the cracks. After the glue dried I used contact cement to reattach the paper cone to the metal frame.

Montana71, I tried your idea, but didn't use the paper towel idea...Seemed the more i messed with it, the worser it got...

Anyway, I just recently bought a new, universal OEM type speaker (5" x7") at the local stereo shop for like seven bucks and had to cut the square in the bracket a little bit bigger to accomodate the larger magnet on the new OEM speaker, and it installed with ease (more or less like the original), and has a nice, crisp, tinny, , might-have-been-made-in-China-but-you-can't-really-tell-from-the-driver's-seat sound....
