80's delay switch into 67

ok i think i havr this figured out but it leaves me with a question in my mind. once you move the black wire with the white stripe. the other two wires that would plug into that wire now have no way to work as they shoul dhave. unless it is just a way to cycle power through the switch to provide wire back through and into the washer pump. is that the way the original switch is made up to work? the hot came from the black wire which comes from the dimmer switch. and then it goes through the old wiper switch and then back out through the green wire to the washer pump. is that what is happening? if so then it is ok to not hook up or worry about that wire being hooked up because it is a hot supply and not a wire that needs hot being supplied to it. if that is the way it is i now finally understand what i need to do. here is what i was looking at when i figured this out. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... washer.jpg

This is as much as I know. The old/oringinal wiper/washer switch had seperate power wires for the wiper and for the washer. The newer switches run both off of the same power wire (the original wiper power) and you have the power wire from the original washer (don't know where it comes from) left unused. It took me a while to wrap my mind around that but it does work.

The easy way to figure this out is to look at the diagram. Note that the old trucks used a seperate plug for the washers. That seperate plug has two wires. When the key is on, one of those wires gets power. Ignore the wire with power, connect the one without power to the connector on the late model assembly. It has been a while since I have done it but if I remember correctly I just switch the two wires in the connector and it plugs in and works fine and there will be no loose wires hanging out. Hawkrod

that is what had me messed up the one wire has power going to it. and that is what messed me up. i couldn't fiugre out why it was left unhooked until i relized that it was just a junction wire carring a hot load. i'm guessing for power to the washer through the switch. the newer delay doesnt need that extra hot carried through the switch. so the black white right beside the empty slot is the one to move. not the other black white.

ForingaMex has it correct.
The original wiper switch in our trucks had 2 power wires going in to it, the "Black" wire for the "Washer Pump" power and the "Orange/white"striped wire for the "Wiper Power". The Newer/delay switches out of the newer trucks only have the 1 power wire into the switch and uses this power for the "Washer Pump" as well as the "Wipers", so that is why you end up with an extra power wire (Black wire on the truck side) that is not used, and beings the configuration of the new switch is just a bit different for the Washer wire you move the Green/black striped wire (on the truck side) over to match with the Washer output wire on the new switch. As Hawrod stated you can move this Black wire, that you don't use, over to the empty spot on the plug so it is taken care of.

This confused the hell out of me for a while until I just realized that I didn't need to use those two, that everything worked fine without them. It seemed kind of strange, but is working GREAT. Rainy day today... I love my intermittant wipers!
