I need help

Post by ravendrake2010 »

Hi My name is Raven and I need help! I have a 1970 Ford F250 automatic with a 390. Well anyway, I want to replace my own neutral saftey backup light switch myself. I already paid the electrical guy for installing the turn signal switch and since I bought the wrong part for the bacup lights (I was sold one for a manual and mines automatic) the money to go back to the shop just isnt there. I got the right part today.
I know the part sits right below the steering wheel and it LOOKS easy to install. If there is a diagram on here of the procedure, please , anybody, let me know ! THX!!!

It's pretty easy:

1) unplug the harness connector
2) unbolt the NSS and remove
3) bolt the new NSS in place
4) plug in harness connector
5) adjust NSS according to the shop manual:

A No. 43 drill bit will cost you a couple bucks at the hardware store.

If you or a friend has a good set of calipers handy, you can measure diameters of whatever's available and likely find a suitable substitute.

I actually used a short section of coat hanger wire.

drill bit and guage wire? turn it so that it is tight against the tang when in the park position. but dont shove it as hard as you can because that is too far. only kidding. the book shows the ford procedure. i was telling of the quick procedure.

I find it easier to do if I unbolt the steering column from the dash to give a little more room to work.
