there were many units made to fit and work in our trucks. aftermarket and dealer installed. if you are looking for a factory look you will want to go with the factory a/c suitcace box. if you are just looking for something to fit better they did make units that fit to the contours of the bottom of the dash. as far as identifing that exact unit the tags on it if any would be your best bet for parts. but exact fitting is what ever it will bolt to. since it was in your truck it was probably made to fit in your truck and maybe many other cars and trucks back then.

the only thing left is to get a martini report to see if you can track down the maker of the unit. but it may not say anything about the unit i dont know. or maybe if yuo knew the dealer who installed it they might have a record of the installation.

What is a martini report?Never heard of it.Don't think it was installed by a dealer cause the hole that was cut thru the firewall looked pretty butcherd.

i know they are kind of high. it just helps others soemtimes find out factory info abotu thier truck. i have no idea how to determine the year of the unit unless there is something inside the case of it.

Looks like it might be one of the old Sears add-on units. :hmm:

Why does it matter who made it or when, if it works and you plan to use it on your truck? :? :?

It looks similar to the early style mustang a/c units. Not sure if they were factory, factory add-on or dealer add-on. I'll post a couple pictures of some units I got out of Mustangs.

Either it's not a Ford piece, or it's missing the Ford emblem that would usually be in the top center between the middle 2 vents.

Well it says FORD above the vents but thats the only markings I have found on the unit.It appears there was a sticker on the top by the blowers, but where it went :dk: .Maybe I should post it in the Identify this part forum

Found another one, but no ID:

61-63 ford Thunderbird's had the same round vents, but they were in dash:

I would guess the manufacturing date as mid to late 1950's thru the early 1960's.

In the mid 1960's you begin to see add on units as used in Mustangs and all the other models from there on out.

Did you know tid bit: In 1939 Air conditioning was offered as an option in a Packard automobile, a $274 option.

From "Driving Miss Daisy":
While driving down the highway, Miss Daisy asks her chauffeur, Hoke: "Did you remember to have the air conditioning checked? I asked you to have it checked."
Hoke: "Yes ma'am. I had it checked. Don't know what fer. You don't never allow me to turn it on."
