strange, I don't read voltage in it now. Roger, 904, green with red trace. I guess I'll hook up my diode and hope I have it right, cause I only got connectors enough to do it once.

Glad you're OK.

hopefully I can attack the backup lights or the blue wire and mystery wire next. Or maybe my oil pressure cicuit I'm thinking about installing.

mine's a '70. once this is done maybe we post a delcotron install guide?

Yep, looking at the wiring diagrams for the 70 the power source for the Alt light is on the same contact as the ignition, so if the alternator is putting out 12 on that terminal it will back feed to the ignition and keep the motor running...

One other thing to check with this alternator... On the terminal #1 with the engine off / key off and wire unplugged from it, check to see if that terminal has continuity to ground if it doesn't then hooking in the diode will just make the alternator work but the light will not work but the truck will shut off like it should. Also, if you don't have a meter you can check it out hooked up by turning the key to just before it engages the starter and the light should come on.

For the diode direction; If you have an ohm meter or continuity tester hook it to the diode it will flow - to + when the leads are hooked up correct, or you can even just use a flashlight bulb and a couple wires on a battery, hook the diode in line and if the light works it is flowing from - to + if the light don't work then you know which way to hook it up to keep it from flowing from the alternator to the idiot light in the truck. :2cents:

Yeah, ground from 1. I installed the diode and everything works like a charm. I did manage to wire it the wrong way the first time around. I tested it with my multimeter (yes, I have one.. heck I have three) and guess I read it incorrectly. I figured when it went 'DIT!' the positive side was the side that the arrow points in the diagram. So much for that.

I guess we have the makings for a Delcotron install guide. I can help with pics and test results. I'm sure the Delcotron is as good as the 3G.

it seems as simple as hooking one of the wires in the alternator head on the side with two eyes (I'm not sure which) hooking it to the post, jumpering it to 2, and hooking a diode to 1 and running the wire to the top slot of the voltage regulator block connector. good stuff.

included is a pic of the component diode. I'll see if i can get a mfg/p.n. for it. Russ (my great uncle who gave me the diode) is not available right now.

So Thunderfoot, whatcha wanna fight with next? Blue wire and mystery wire, backup lights, or bizarre amplifier?
