tachometer questions

Post by 68fordf100 »

Hey guys adam here lurckin the pages of this wonderful website but anyway I have a 1968 f100 and the wiring under the dashis messed up even going to the fuse box. One problem is that all the fuses are covered in foil is that why my rear lights won't work? Also I have bought a tachometer from oriellys an I started running the wires to my ignition coil and ground but I also have to run my wires to the fuse box and to the light switch. But I don't know the wiring cuz its so butchered so can I just get an inline fuse and cap that wire off then get a switch an run my next wire to that instead of goin to the light switch for lightin the tach? What do u think? And how do I wire a switch?

I lit my tach off a stub wire for some accessory, part of the instrument light circuit. Best option is always the right one.

to hook up power from the fuse box to the tach. some years of fuse boxes had 2 extra tabs to pull power off of the side of the fuse box. if not you might want to just run it straight to the battery with a inline fuse. the foil on the fuses means there has been overloads in the system before. i woudl check for bare frayed out burnt wires back under the truck. the probelm could also be in the tss. you have to check stuff and start eliminating the possiblities of each problem that is encountered.
