Alternator wiring
How many wires go to the alternator on a 1972 F100? I only have two that I see.

Re: Alternator wiring
With full gauges. One of the wires has a rubber boot on it. The boot is orange I think. The other wire just has a round terminal on it to slip over a post.
The wires are laying on the crankshaft pully in the pic.

Re: Alternator wiring
it should have a total of 4 wires. orange is the main power wire. to the large stud. black/red would go from the alt to the regulator bolt as for a ground. i have posted pictures of how the wires should go. the colors may vary but they are hooked up correctly. http://www.fordification.com/tech/wirin ... _quick.jpg
and here is another one i took a picture of.
the black one in all of my picturs of the alternators are ground to the regulator bolt. black /red on the diagram. yellow is orange on the diagram i dont know what the other colors match on my pictures. you just have to follow the diagram for your truck i guess.

Re: Alternator wiring
Thanks Fordman for the pics. That helps a lot. Looks like I am just missing the wire between the Alt and the voltage regulator.

Re: Alternator wiring
Where does the black wire on yours go on the voltage regulator?
The alternator wires are a black/red wire and a orange wire.

Re: Alternator wiring
my black one goes to the botl on the core support that holds the regulator on to the core support. it is a ground wire. just as in bobby's pics. the Black wire with red stripe is the ground wire. it runs from the alternator ground stud to the core support.

Re: Alternator wiring
Thanks a lot for that. Exactly what I need to do. Now I see I have the black plastic splice thing on the wrong terminal.
