Can I use this starter?

The starter that came with my 460 has its own relay on it. I would like to just use it because that would save me from having to buy another one when this one works.

Would it be possible to keep the relay up on the passenger fender too? Or no?

if that is the newer starter yo uhave to wire it in differently. there wa on post i read awhile back abotu using a mini starter in our trucks and how to use the newer fender relay to wire it up. i dont know where the thread is at or who posted it.

I think I will just get the proper starter. But I want to stay under $50.

I kind of like the Ultima starter, kind of a known brand name to me. O'Reilly auto parts lists a Motorcraft starter but no price.

I believe that you can just leave it as it is but you have to run a short length of wire from the S terminal on the starter to the large terminal on the starter (where the cable is from the fender solenoid) so that when the fender solenoid is energized to start, it will send power to the large terminal and the S terminal of the starter at the same time.

That should have a flat strap from the factory to accomplish this.
Back in the day they used a fender solenoid on this style starter.

If you ever want to change you can use a 351M or 400 starter.

Unless you have a clearance issue you don't need a mini starter, a 400 starter is all you need.
I used one on my 13 to 1 compression race motor without a problem, but I used 0 gauge cables.

Yea there is a flat metal strap across two of the terminals. So that is what that is for?

I'm not "Brand Loyal" Ford-Chevy-Dodge-Toyota I have them all, one even cross mixed...
If it Looks good and Works good then it's ok by me. Everything has its issues from time to time...
