only speedometer working on my dash?

Post by BEAST-BACK2LIFE »

Im a new member to this site and for a long time I've been looking for possible answers to some of my questions regarding this first project of mine. Im trying to do as much hands on work to my 1972 ford f-250. I would like to know if anyone out there can guide me in the right direction onto what would it take for me to get my gauges working... my only good gauge is my speedometer but even then at times it seems as if I was driving slower then its telling me. Question #1? PS. Would be alot of help..

the 72 uses a circuit board to work the gages in your truck. it also has a instrument panel voltage regulator to let the circuit board work. if either of those are bad you wont get any thing to work with the gages. one of the ways to start checking this is to see if the gages are giving you power from t he senders. i think you can ground the wire on the block for each Gage to check and see if the Gage is working or the sender. but since all of your gages are out i suspect it is the circuit board or the ipvr. so you will have to check the power coming into the circuit board at the plug to the cluster. after that i am unsure how to check the rest of the circuit board or ipvr.

the speedo being off is a different problem and has to do with the correct size of the gears on the speedo cable.

Grinding noise at 35mph or faster;[

Post by BEAST-BACK2LIFE »

Fordman.. I appreciate the tip on my gauges problem. Im now working on that I have spent part of saturday and half of sunday going over all the wiring all over this beast, and figuring out where all the sending units are. I should now ask if anyone can point me into the right direction with another problem on my 72 f250. I have a constant grinding noise at about 35mph or higher.. I changed my front bearings and my rear outer bearings including my pinion bearing and seals. I am going desperate trying to figure out what it may be.. please help.. thanx

Well it seems as if it was coming from under, but i am unable to identify if its front or rear. Well as of right now I am going to open up my differential and try to replace my bearings in there, it seems complicated and time consuming but Im gonna have to try it... If I can get a tip on what to or what not to do to make it worse or better I once again would appreciate it.... I am going to go buy the parts and will start on it on 05-14-10.
