1971 F250 alternator question
I'm adding a battery isolator for used with a 5th wheel RV trailer with my '71 F250 CS. Which wire is the power wire from the regulator back to the battery? Or does the power come directly off the alternator? Should I be able to use a standard three terminal isolator (in feed, two outputs)?

Re: 1971 F250 alternator question
I only appear to have bits and pieces of the CS wiring package, so I'm routing around all of it. Found this in the factory service manual:
I assume I need to connect both the heavy black wire and the yellow wire to the input terminal on the isolator.

ok i have to leave and couldnt keep searching. once you run over to the second drivers side relay the power wire for the camper jumps off of the drivers side relay. i excpet the isolator goes between the two relays to isolate one from the other. so the break would be in between the two i think is how it goes.

Re: 1971 F250 alternator question
This creates more questions than it answers. On the positive side of the starter solenoid, I'm seeing three wires. The positive battery cable, a yellow wire, and another yellowish (dirty) wire, but nothing that looks big enough to handle charging current. There are no other connections to the positive side of the battery.
I added the two red wires today for the trailer wiring project. The large black cable is the battery cable, and the other two wires both look yellow with no stripes, but the ends have tape on them, so someone did some repair work. Neither is the size of the largish black wire coming off the alternator. Is the alternator shoving charging current back through a wire that's too small?

Re: 1971 F250 alternator question
please ignore my guesses in the previous post about where the isolator should be wired in. i thought it was in my book. i looked and could not find how to do it. and i go to thinking while i was goen that the isolater is a one way flow of power i think. only into the battery fo rthe camper. so it wouldnt be hooked between both realys. but maybe it is i dont want to steer you wrong on this one. so i am going to bow out for now and hope that some one who knows more about these than i do be able to come in and help with this problem. all thought i know it shoul dbe in the diagrams i just cant find it anywhere.
