Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
Great! That brings me to:
1)the fuel gauge showing full all the time
2)Temp gauge showing maxed out all the time
3)instrument panel backlights not working
4)ALT light on
5)TSS not working
6)back left turn signal and brake light not working (not sure on the front left signal yet)
But as Aaron Tippon sang in the early 90s ........."There Aint Nothing Wrong with the Radio!"
So much fun to look forward to when I get my truck back from the brake shop.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
There's no need to drain the gas from a stock (behind the seat) tank to replace the fuel sender.Banjo wrote:ok, it was the crimped connector hadn't held when ignition switch reinserted into dash. used a red bullet style connector and got better connection and electrical things work now except fuel sending unit in stock gas tank. It had been showing too full and dropping real fast to empty and I think the fuel sending unit has just given up the ghost at the same time this crimped connection failed. So now I'm gonna drain the gas tank and order a new feul tank sending unit.
Just make sure the tank isn't completely full, tilt the seat forward, and have at it!!!

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

3 check the small fuse in the fuse box.
4 check the wirign to the light if it is charging the battery. or the fan belt could be loose
5 replce it if its broken.
6 that could be in the tss. check to se if power is coming out of the tss for that side.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
OK thanks.
The tiny fuse under the dash was fine. The middle sized one was blown. Replaced and all the turn signals and brake lights are working fine now....thanks. Yet since you said the small fuse, and I found the tiny fuse to be OK, I put the tester on the terminals. Nothing on either side. Don't know what that little guy is for but that might be some of my probs with my dash lights or gauges?
Will check the altenator wires today. AND What is the "ipvr"?

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
the fuse could still be bad or the connection dirty in the fuse box. see if the fuse has continuity. if it does clean the terminals in the fuse box.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
Yeah I checked the continuity and it zeroes out. So the fuse is good. But what I meant was that I checked for power on both sides of the terminals and neither was showing hot. I'll probably take the fuse box off the inner firewall and check it from the back side.
The ALT light is still on, the dash lights out, and the fuel & temp gauges still not working.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
ok then you arent getting power to the fuse. so you have to trace back to find out why it isnt getting power to the fuse. it could be the wire on back of the fuse terminal is broken off. i see that happen before.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
The power for that fuse (Instrument Lights) comes from the light switch, you have to have the lights turned on first and also be sure to turn the knob to turn the dash lights up to full bright. If you still don't have power then the dimmer part of the light switch is probably bad (common problem)fordman wrote:ok then you arent getting power to the fuse. so you have to trace back to find out why it isnt getting power to the fuse. it could be the wire on back of the fuse terminal is broken off. i see that happen before.

Re: So very frustrated at ignition switch
Cool, thanks to you both. Plan to get on it on my next set of days off. I work 14-18 hours generally and don't have time for the first half of the week.
