Has anyone took out there factory A/C unit out too clean it up and paint it ? Mine that I have for my 67 is from a 72 and well lets just say it has been sitting for some time and there was some things in there would just like too clean it out and do some paint on the inside of it.
I pulled mine about 5 years ago to replace the blower motor.
Of course, the whole thing had to be disassembled, and the motor was the last thing to come out of the case.
It's not hard to do, just pull it out and start taking out bolts. Remember how everything came apart (a digital camera and lots of photos help there). You can find a breakdown in the tech section of the site.
While you have it out, I would suggest having the heater core cleaned and checked.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Yes I did, fairly recently actually I took mine out to have everything checked out and painted everything up. Mine was the factory AC in my highboy. The only thing I didn't take pictures of was relpacing the fan motor. That actually came later since I put it back together and the fan bearings where wore out.
On the flaps I covered them with the cabinet matting that I used on my 67s heater inplace of the old dried foam that was in it originally.

the compressor brackets are the same for each enigne family. they dont have to do with car or truck. only eninge family size. all fe are the same for use in a truck. 6 cyl is the same 240 and 300. 302 351w and possibly 351c m and 400. are the same.
Thanks for both info on paint and brack but why im asking about the bracket is my compressor stands stright up not to the side hopping I when I install it in my 67 I can put it on its side with the same bracket.

You'll need a different bracket to mount it on the side. There were two variations of factory compressor mounting.
The bolt patterns are different.
I'm also pretty sure the pulley arrangement is different for a horizontal mount vs. a vertical mount.

As many York and Tecumseh compressors as I've installed or replaced, I always thought the pattern was different.
I just went to the basement and measured one, and sure enough, it appears to be the same either way.

Im hopping its the same bracket im trying not too buy alot of things because im doing an off the frame resto using parts from a 1972 F-100 for my 1967 F-100 4X4. The guy I got the 72 from cut the frame at just befor the trans mount not good for me trying too get the thin on the trailer but i got it on. Have too say the 390 ran too put a one wire alt on it too see if it ran and it did alt worked too got it off ebay now less wires. But did have too mess with bottom bracket of alt too make it work.
Fireguy, you don't have the same bracket as Maverick does. I had a 390 with that same PS setup as Maverick in my '68 F100. That engine came from a car. Maverick, you could try laying the compressor on it's side. The bolt pattern should be the same. Just make sure you don't hit the PS cooler.
