You'll want to give the details on what motor you have and year of your truck...
It sounds like the pulleys are not in line with each other, use a straight edge on the crank pulley and see if the Alternator pulley is lined up and no twist is in it either. :2cents:

the part number for the top bracket is C8ae-8 or b i couldnt tell for sure. this is from an original 67 352. i helped pull it out myself. i just now took it of the motor for a picture. the number is on the end of the slotted bracket. the 68 top bracket is almost the same as the 67 bracket. but the 67 bracket has a slight bend to it right at the very end where it bolts on. the 67 bottom bracket is flat where it botls to the water pump. the 68 and up bottom bracket is offset where it bolts to the water pump. here is a picture of the 67 top and bottom brackets i just took off. i can get compare pics if needed between the two model bracket sets.

I see two potential problems.

The belt looks glazed and very worn.

It also looks like it's running in the bottom of the groove on the pulley.

The outer edge of the belt should be near the outer diameter of the groove, so that the edges of the belt are doing the pulling. If it bottoms in the groove, you only have a small amount of belt surface trying to do all of the work.

the one top bracket is for a factory a/c pulley setup. 1968 was the first year for factory a/c. so that is why it doesnt seem to line up correctly.

I honestly don't remember, i think for sure you brought the top bracket. if you brought both, i know i was being rushed by the city to get it all back together, i was up for three days except 2 hours each day just so i could get it all back together, and then they wanted axhuast put on it professionally and safety inspection and missouri tags and missouri specific auto coverage too. they realy rode me on that stuff. wonder how much this has to do with my problem?

alternator bracket comparison pictures. two photos. the first is the three alternator solid bracket for the 67-72 ford trucks with and without a/c and 352 36 and 390 engines. the top photo is of the factroy a/c bracket. it fits 67-72 water pumps. the second bracket is of the 1967 352 only water pump lower alternator bracket. the third and last picture is of the 68-72 lower alternator water pump mounted bracket.

Image

the 67 bracket in the this picture has a flat mounting surface where both bolts on the water pump mounitng surface are even so tha bracket fits flat on the water pump.

the 68-72 alternator bracket fits on the 68-72 360/390 water pump. that wate rpump has a uneven mounting surface. so the alt bracket has a uneven mounting surface.

the factory a/c top mounting bracket fits on top with the adjuster bracket underneath. i plan on posting more photos tomorrow of both water pump mounting surfaces. and how the factory a/c bracket fits on or around the water pump.

*(note: the 67-72 fe water pump is the same but has three holes for all three differeent moutning brackets.)
