light issues

Post by hotrod ford »

i have been having tail light issues and went to the pnp to get a new tail light harness. the one that goes from the connection on the outside of the fire wall to the rear. here is the issue: my left rear blinker is very very weak while the others blink bright. the p/o had the brakes all jerry rigged up by running seperate wires. i don't want to do that so i connected them up according to the wire chart and everytime i connect the brake switch the flasher fuse blows.

almost sounds like something in the wiring is crossed in the rear or something inside of the tail light or frotn blinker socket is grounding out. that could explain the weak light maybe or mayeb there is a cross circut up under the dash that is grounding out in the hazard swithc or flasher wiring.

i think there is somthing more to it. finally traced the wire for the brake switch and connected them to some new wires and then the brake switch. the brake lights came on but the wires got hot and i disconnected the switch.

alright, here is what did. cut the cannon plugs off the rear of the truck where the two harnesses meet up. yellow to yllow, green to green, brown to brown ....... anyway matched all colors up. now i have both parking light and blinkers working, but no rear 4-way or no brake. could the brake switch be bad? i have the proper 20a fuse. that was one of the issues at first. it was a 14amp.

so, the only thing is the brakes. how do i run wires for a brake switch that wont be connected to the cab wire harness. i know a batt wire, ground and one to the rear. everytime i go to connect to the battery it sparks. maybe to the ignition?

If you do that when you step on the brakes the blinkers will stop. The brake lights go through the turn signal switch.
