Working on my cluster with new gauges. 6-7-10

Post by marz68 »

So I finally ordered my new gauges from speedway motors.
They came with all the sensors and hadrware for $199.99 except for the speedo cable that i also ordered.
Here is some of the work iv'e been doing.

Now that I have everything I need its time to mount them but I cant make up my mind on the best look so I want your guys opinion.
Whats the best look? or should I rearange them?

I like this setup but not sure if I should keep them close to each other or spread them apart? Whats you vote?

I vote for number 4 as well. Here is a pic of the way I did mine. I kept the original speedo but it might give you a better visual.

The pics aren't the best but I hope it helps.

I like the one stephen44 selected as well. It looks clean & simple. One thing you dont want on a instrument cluster is clutter. It looks very low-pro, yet its still 100% functional.

Update! I went with the spread out look. Here is the cluster plate almost done, I still need to drill holes for the turn signal lights.

Good morning Marcelino!

I admire both that you've created the cluster insert from scratch, and that you'll wind up with an all-metal cluster housing! Your fabrication skills look fantastic. This way it's really "all yours."

Regarding the necessity to paint it, perhaps it's for the best. All of these bright-looking metal gauge housings for sale (like the one I bought ready-made) are cool-looking, but they're probably less functional than a cluster background that's painted a dark color. I can imagine that in many different driving conditions, the bright metal background will reflect sunlight in to your eyes and could be distracting and/or dangerous. The ideal background's probably a dark color that minimizes glare, and calls attention to the gauges themselves.

Have you already decided on a paint color?

When it comes time to wire your gauges in, since both of our trucks are 1972 models, perhaps you'd find the diagrams and notes of interest in Could I ask for advice on attaching my Teleflex gauges?

I look forward to following your progress Marcelino, and congratulations on the one-of-a-kind job you've done so far!

Thanks robroy!
I like the plain metal look but like you said it is dangerous cause of the glare it creates so I will definetaly be painting it, as for the color I don't know yet???
Oh and thanks for the link I will definetaly be looking at it when it comes time to wire my gauges.
By the way nice cluster you have, very clean and detailed work you do.
