hard to plug in

how many of you have had the old rubber connectors that were sometimes hard to put back together? and what did you do about it to get them al the way back together? i have had several that are hard to go back together without a lube of some sort. i only lubed on connector with something or anohter. the others i was able to keep wiggling until they finally went together far enough to make contact and work. i have considered silicone spray.

I've had the same situation. The rubber plugs after 40 years get a mind of their own. First, I clean all my wires and rubber plugs with lacquer thinner then a final clean with 409 to remove the majority of the thinner. The lacquer thinner seems to softned the rubber (while removing grime and paint) so that they go back together easier.

While some may say that this destroys the rubber jacket / plugs, I've done this on all my show cars and the wires, rubber looks brand new.

I like the idea of using Silicone spray. Got to admit I hadn't thought about that...
