horn issue

Post by pltmgr »

My 68 Ranger was missing the horn contact plate part # 13A808. When I obtained this part and installed it under the plastic three tab ring the tabs would not reach the hold down slots because the of the protruding threaded part of the steering shaft. (I guess why this part was missing). After I cut a hole in the center of the horn contact plate the tabs engaged and the horn works correctly. I do not have a horn "button" but instead the "half circle" ring that I believe was standard in the Ranger trim. The vehicle was originally a manual so a PO installed an automatic steering column. Out of curiosity, does the "half circle" ring come with a different horn contact plate or is there a issue with my steering column? thanks.

The horn works after I cut out the center. seems my steering shaft is protruding too far out

it must be a 70-72 shaft then. you could have ground the shaft off too. here is a comparison shot fo the two different plates. they look exactly the same though.
