you can buy kits for foam and covers. any upholstery shop can also do it. but not all will rebuild the springs.

lightdrinker can you please look at the back of your seat from the 71 and tell me what kind of mechanism holds the back of the seat up? I just pulled my out of the weeds and the while the actual seat is fine, the seat back leans to the cab wall. I figure something must be missing but I have figured out what yet

there is nothing that holds the seat from goign back to the cab wall. that is where it normally sits/rides. the stop is at the bottom of the seat. i would have to say it is the base of the springs that is the stop. i cant remember exactly on how it stops. but it probably isnt missing from your seat.

the only problem that I have with that is if the seat is scooted forward then the seat back would always lean backward. There must be something that keeps the seat back up right, shouldn't there?

On some 70+ trucks there was a latch that was bolted to the setback. It was a large allen or torx bolt if I remember correctly. It bolts the seatback to the seat. Thats the only thing holding the seat that I know of. & its only there to keep the seat from tilting forward.

My seatback rests on the back of the cab also.

ok here are the pictures. this is with the seat slid all the way forward. the seat back rests right on the seat bottom. there is no sort of stops other than that. and of course the last most important pictue is too big to upload. it is just a picture of the seat tilted forward and the wear marks on the bottom of the seat where the seat back rides on the top of the seat bottom.

okay, see how in the first picture your seat back holds itself up so that it doesnt rest on the cab? Mine, for some reason does not do that. It literally, if the seat is scooted forward for a shorter driver will just fall back to the cab so that the driver is leaning backward. Things that make you go HMMMM
