Could someone tell me how to change the bulb in the brake system warning light in my 1971 f100? It's supposed to come on briefly while starting the truck and doesn't. I can feel from behind the dash that it's spring loaded and has two wires to it but I can't turn it. I can't find it in my shop manual.
Thanks.

yes it is spring loaded. and they do stick together. from rust soemtimes and they break the bezel when coming off. ok you push the rear of the socket forward towards the dash that collapes the sprign so you can push in slighty on the bezel and turn it. be careful if it doesnt turn real easy. you may have to use pb blaster in there to loosen up any rust or dirt.

Re: Brake system warning light bulb replacement
Thanks Fordman,
I pushed it out from behind so the bazel sticks out but I can't push it in from the front at all. I can see rust on the side of it where it goes through the dash. I don't have any pb blaster so I sprayed WD 40 around it and will try tomorrow. I can't remember it working so there's certainly no hurry. Anyway, thanks to you, I know how it's supposed to work. and can deal with it.

Have you checked the wiring, that plugs in at the distribution block? If it's not plugged in the light will not come on.

Re: Brake system warning light bulb replacement
I finally got it loose. To check the bulb, I pressed the bottom contact of it to one battery terminal and ran a wire from the other terminal to the brass side of the bulb and got no response so it looks like the bulb is bad. If a new bulb doesn't work, it's good to know to look at the wiring next.
Thanks!
