Hello everyone. My amp gauge is currently broken I don't know if its wiring or the gauge but from what I have heard the ford amp gauge wasn't that good to begin with. So I was wondering if their was a way to change a new amp gauge to a volt gauge or maybe a place that sells volt gauges that fit into the 1970's dash? Any help on this topic would be great.

Re: Changing stock amp gauge to volt
I have also thought about that but have the F500 gauge set in. There are places that will convert them over but I have not had it done personally. Someone will hopefully respond.
The amp gauges show little deflection. You can increase the shunt wire length and get a bigger deflection but it is still an amp gauge. I have a volt gauge mounted on the steering column.
If you find anything keep me posted.

Re: Changing stock amp gauge to volt
The stock ammeter main failure point is the wiring under the hood almost all trucks I find the wires cut or disconnected by someone who did not know what they were doing. A way to turn the gauge into a voltmeter is take the yellow wire under the hood and put a 2 amp fuse in it. Then ground the Red wire. The ammeter in our trucks really is a differential voltmeter. 0 is in the center Plus to the right and minus to the left.
