gauge needle position

Post by lightdrinker »

can some one please tell me or perhaps show me via a picture the normal operating position for the needles on the guages? normal set up at normal operating temp. A/C, fuel, temp and oil. i cleaned and lubed all of my guages and now there are showing diff readings, since i don't know if they were correct in the first place i dont know if they are correct now. i would like to think they are because its running cooler and i have more gas lol.

thanks in advance,
cody

each truck may show something different because of the ipvr adjustment for each instrument panel voltage that is actually adjusted to. it is suppose to be adjusted all the same 5 volts but some ipvr have known to be off and in need of adjustment. one sure way is to make sure your fuel gauge is readign correctly. by checkign the amoutn of gas vs what the gauges reads. if it is full and the gauge read full then you should be good. if it is full and it reads soemthing else then the ipvr needs adjusting. and that will correct all of your gauge readings.

Well, before I got the under dash gauges,

ALT was straight up in the middle
FUEL was whatever I had in the tank. Knock on wood
TEMP was straight up in the middle (operating temp.)
OIL was between straight up & 3/4, if that makes sense.

Do yourself a favor & get a good set of aftermarket mechanical gauges. The factory gauges were half azz when new. :2cents:

They either work or they dont. I dont think it would do you any good.

What did you lube them with? WD-40 or oil or what. I would pull the cluster back out & use a q tip & alcohol to remove any lube. I imagine the lube is causing a short of some sort & thats why you're getting false readings.

Did you replace the resistor on the back of the cluster? It could also be bad.
