Here are four pictures (All driver side) for the modifications I made to my doors. The last photo is to depict the clearance of the speaker from the seat-belts and bench seat. This is of course for a 1971 Ford-F100. The nice thing about having them on the back part of the door instead of the front portion is it adds more base. The speaker is so much closer to you that you are still getting vibration. Which is great when you have no room for a sub woofer.

If you want shots of the passenger door tell me.

Good luck,

Thanks for the input foxtrot.... I thought about this location but worried my body would muffle the sound. Do you have any problems hearing the speakers in this location?

No problems at all. Only issue I have is the seat-belt buckle hits them. If you do not have a screen for them I would not suggest putting them there.

I was thinking about putting 2 speakers in each door. one will be a full range speaker and the other will be a sub. both will be 6.5

That will be too much in my opinion... my two 6 1/2" speakers are extreamly loud on medium volume because of the size of the cab. I would suggest two 6x9" speakers if you are wanting more bass.

Hey Foxtrot, are you getting more base or is that an illusion because the highs are more muffled due to the seat being right there? Or did you mean you can just feel more base because of the vibration you mentioned?

I am getting ready to do mine soon and just ordered a pair of these: http://www.jcwhitney.com/65-360-watt-th ... 24517.jcwx for the doors and am planning on cutting my panels as well. I also ordered these: http://www.jcwhitney.com/3-way-bass-ref ... 01237.jcwx which I will toy around with and see if maybe they will mount in the cab corners. I would like to keep them out of sight so I am not looking to go high cab, but maybe down in the corners on each side of the in-cab tank. I dont know. If I am able to make those work back there, then I would be more apt to mount my door speakers in the forward location.

Another option is to go with either the doors or the boxes, and then get the dual speaker that replaces the stock dash speaker. Anyone have any experience with that dual speaker? Or should I just lose that idea all together and stick with the 2 or 4 other speakers? Its an either/or with me. I figure I will just hook up 4 speakers total max (4 channel stereo).

The stereo was down on my list of things to do, but since JC Whitney has 20% off everything right now (code 4thjuly) until 7/5/10, I figured I would just do it. I ordered the RetroSound radio with the USB input that fits directly into our dash as well since they had the sale. http://www.jcwhitney.com/model-one-radio/p2020987.jcwx

Anyway, I am also looking for speaker mount ideas now. :) So thanks for starting this thread!

My idea would be to place small sub's in the doors, similar to foxtrot's placement, and speakers in the cab vent places. Either that or custom build a box fot the subs. Personally I don't feel like moving the in cab tank, but that is also a feasible thing to do, and fave a custom box placed behind the seats. also, if you really want that done, I recomend an audio shop, but one with an extremely good reputation. Several in my area. I wisit them, atalk to them, talk to friends/co-workers/family to see if they know anyhting about them...etc.

Just my $0.02.

I'm not lying when I say two 6 1/2" Speakers do the trick. But, if you want more bass just go with some high end 6x9" speakers. The placement will not really matter due to the cab being such a small space. Just make sure they are the same on both sides. The reason I said I was getting more bass was because of the position causing the sound to become slightly muffled as you were saying CalfDemon. I do not think you will be able to get the 3-way Bass Reflex's to fit, but if you do let me know. Will be good information to have! If you are really wanting a subwoofer (I don't recommend) but if you REALLY want one. I would build a center console to go from the bottom of the dash to the floor pan with a slight tilt, and hide the woofer by placing it within the console.

I have my doubts that the Bass Reflex's will fit where I stated as well. But other options I am weighing (which I think will both work) are above the in-cab tank behind the seat, or under the dash on either side. Maybe even on the kick panels. Since they are already boxed and bracket mounted, there are a lot of options for those and it just depends on where I can make them fit. If they dont work out in my truck, I still have my 67 Firebird that I want to do a hidden stereo on someday and they will work under or behind the back seat in that car. So its not wasted money, thats why I bought them as well to see if I can make them work in the truck.

Anyway, thanks for the input on your mounting location. I am leaning towards cutting my door panels in the same place.

I have a 6x9 in each door and 6.5s in the headliner. I will try to post a picture tonight.
