odometer problems

Post by element7878 »

I believe that i have a bad odometer. I bought the truck around 2 months ago so i am just in the beginning stages of learning everything about it. Its a 1967 ford f100 shortbed. When i got the truck it didnt have a speedo cable installed, but it did have the original one broken in the bed of the truck. I ordered a new cable, installed the gear off the old cable ,and installed it into the truck. It was working somewhat but would jump around and get stuck at the 20 mph mark. I took the odometer apart and noticed that there is a spring in the back of the needle that makes it spring back to 0 mph and it has unraveled some. Not really knowing what to do i reinstalled it. I also found out that i needed to grease the cable. so i took it off, greased it, and reinstalled. now the needle doesnt move at all, and you can here something making a noise in the back of the gauge when driving. Any help is appreciated. And if you think its bad, does anyone know where to get one?

sounds like it is broken and needs a new speedometer. the cable seems to be working to make the speedometer make noise.

Yea that's what I think too...does anyone know where to buy one? Or is it like our grilles and you just have to find one used?
