Orginal Radio

I have the orginal radio that works and I want to install it. I'm not too concerned about mounting it since the orginal opening and everything else is present.

How do Identify the factory radio power wire or should I just run it off of any old 12 V wire tied into the ignition switch?

After the radio, I'm on to trouble shooting the amp and oil pressure gauges.

the factory power outlet for the radio coems from the ignition switch. it is behind the instrument cluster. it is the only three holed female plug on the whole truck. it is for power to options such as radio cargo light and something else that i cant think about at the moment. also coming off of the radio is wire with a inline fuse in it that plugs into that three holed female plug. you can see the black plug in this picture right above the wiper switch. this is a F600 but the wiring for the radio is the same.

Thanks Fordman. I think I'm using one of those three prong female plugs for my wipers.

that is what i was forgetting. the orange wire for the wiper power comes from that plug too.

Well, I'm pretty sure i hooked up to the correct wires in the radio but it will not work. It worked several months back when I tested it. I just don't get it? Electrical is getting the best of me:)

Does anyone have the color codes for the wires coming out of the radio. There are 4: 2 speakers, one ground, and one power.

Maybe an after market radio is my best bet but I really want the orginal to work again.

does the place you hooked it up to have power to it? i think the speaker wires may both be black. or one has a yellow strip on it. i am kind of guessing as i dont have a radio around to look at to say for sure what colors they are for sure.

I didn't think the original had a ground wire. I'm pretty sure it was just grounded through the radio chassis when it was mounted in the dash.

It should have a two-wire connector for the speaker, a power wire with an inline fuse, and a wire for the light.

It would be very hard to hook it up wrong.

Try fordman's suggestion. Make sure you have power to the power lead.

There is 12 V on the wire into the radio. I don't have the radio in the dash - ias that the problem and can I simulate a ground wo puting in the dash. I don't remember grounding the radio when I last tested it

It's just like anything electrical on a vehicle. It HAS to have power and ground.

Just hook a jumper wire from the radio chassis to the dash. That will provide a ground.

Thanks. I think I need to take a class in electrical - that would save me so much time and headhace both at work, at home and on my truck:)

well i just took a picture of my 67 radio and it cut off the picutre too short. but the speaker wires on this one are 1 green 1 black the power wire is the black one with the fuseable link in it. and the body of the radio is the ground just to confirm. here is the picture anyway.

Thnaks for the pics and descriptions. I have 2 brown wires that have been soddered on to the existing wires - I thought those were speaker wires. Then there is a black and a blue wire.

I didn''t even notice that my location wasn't posted. I'll go figure out how to edit my profile so it shows. I'm in Bothell Wa - about 15 miles NE of Seattle if anyone wants to stop by any play on my truck:)

Okay, the orginal AM radio and speaker work. The black wire is power. The two brown wires are my under the dash speaker, but what is the blue wire with the red stripe?

Unless I hear otherwise, I'll just cap it off.

the blue wire is probably for the backlight on the tuning dial.
