help with starting problem

OK I will try to keep it short
1971 F250 390 eng (truck built 4-70)
Driving down the road and it started spitting and sputtering, then died. Would not start. got it home did some checking and it seems to fire and start sometimes at first but now not at all. Replaced coil, plugs, cap, rotor, wires,points, condensor and battery (just cause it was old) Still no fire when, I checked at the spark plugs I either get no spark or very very light spark (orange in color) when I check the coil for spark it is the same as plugs very light or non existent. So I start reading the forum and find all the talk about the resistance wire? so I went to NAPA and bought a new one and they told me it would just plug in with the connectors it has in place of the old one problem is I see nothing like that wire with those ends. I'm now wondering am I on the right track or should I be trying something else? If I'm on the right track where is the wire? as far as I can tel the only thing I have not changed is the solenoid on the fender and the resistance wire. Any help would be much appreciated

the resistance wire goes from the ignition switch to the firewall plug that goes out to the engine. it drags down the voltage going to the coil once the engine is running. when the truck is tring to start the starter relay provides power to the coil at a full 12 volts to get the engine to start.
check to see that the coil has power when the switch is on. then check to see that the points are putting a spark across the gap when you turn it over. then check to see if the coil is putting spark out to the plugs. the resist ro wire is one of the last things i would look at. and i probably wouldnt look at it unless it wont stay running. the truck should start if the resistor wire is bad i think. because you have 12 volts coming from the starter relay to help start the engine.

A long while back I went to start my truck one morning and you could tell it would hit while I had the key turned to the start position but would die when I let it off to the run postition. After much trial and error (heavy on the error) I happened to take the brown wire (one that adds the full 12v to the coil during start -if the color is off folks let me know its been a while)<I do know its the one closest to the firewall on the solenoid> off the solenoid and tried it; the truck started and ran. That let me know it was the solenoid shorting inside and I replaced it. Just adding my worth of things that have happened to me.

I do have spark sometimes but very weak when I do.
I will try the solenoid it's about the only thing I haven't tried?
