when i hit the blinker, the flashers come on

every time i hit the blinker my emergency flashers come on. i fixed this problem a few days ago by finding a loose wire in the steering column harness but now that wire is fixed and i still dont have blinkers( they work as flashers) any ideas?

do your dash lights flash too? or the license lights? i've seen several cars with 1157 bulbs installed crooked and shorting the turn/brake voltage to the taillight circuit.

well, heres the thing. i have no dash lights atm or license plate lights( im thinking due to the same problem) as well as my oil gauge and temp gauge do not work. my wiring has anout 5 wires that r either missing or cut off under ther dash with no idea of where they go or start. the only way i got them to work before was fixing the before mentioned harness to the steering column.ill check the bulbs for sure tho

just take all 4 1157 bulbs out and turn the turn signal on. if it still sends power to the wrong circuits the short is somewhere else

i agree it is a feedback loop somewhere. the bulbs are a good place to start checking. the wires that are cut off could have soemthing to do with it. if someone has rerouted power from one thing to another. you can check the wiring diagram page to find out which wires go where.

ok, i took out all 4 1157 bulbs and ran a check, it shuts down one side of the flasher but the other side is staying a constant, it does'nt flash just stays lit up. is this supposed to happen? i also noted that one of the wires is runnin to my windshield wiper switch( seemed a little odd to me)

figured out the prob, previous owner wired in a trailer plug and it was shorting the hot to the left blinker, thnx for the info
