If you want to save the money on the puller, you can pull them off by hand. But make sure to leave the nut threaded a few turns. Trust me on this I walked around with a busted lip for a week because of this error.

The squeaking you hear is the crummy bearings that Ford used on the steering columns. It nice to rebuild these columns and not that hard. You can renew everything at one time.

remove the horn ring or button
remove the spring behind the ring or button. it will fall out really.
loosen the nut in the center of the steering wheel.
hook up steering wheel puller to the steering wheel. turn the nut on the strreing wheel puller and the wheel might slide off. or pop off. if it doesn't what to come. take a hammer and smack the puller once kind of hard. right in the center nut that screws. that will give it a vibration and it should pop off. you can also put your knees behind the wheel to help kind of pull the wheel off. like was already said keep the nut on the shaft so it doesnt pop off so hard and fast that it comes flying up at you.

disconnect the battery first.
if i remember correctly push down on the center of your horn & turn counter clockwise about 1/8 turn & you should "feel " it release.
then follow above instructions.
good luck.
