MSD Blaster 2 with Duraspark

Post by 70_F100 »

I've done the search, and I've looked at all of the wiring diagrams, and I can't find the answer to my question. :? Either that, or I'm just overlooking the obvious (good possibility)

I'm getting ready to install a Duraspark setup in my 70 F100 w/360, and I'm planning on using the MSD Blaster 2 coil with the correct Ford Duraspark horseshoe connector (MSD P/N 8205).

My question is, can this coil handle full 12V, or do I need to put a ballast resistor in the coil + wire? Alternately, does the factory resistance wire provide the correct voltage? :hmm:

Any help with this is appreciated.

I'm getting conflicting information on my MSD paperwork. I eliminated the resistor wire in my Duraspark/MSD set up.

Thanks, BobbyFord.

That's along the lines of what I've been finding, so I'm hoping someone here who has done the conversion successfully can give me a clarification.

I know yours is a new build, so I'm guessing you haven't put a lot of miles on your truck since installation.

Well one thing that I can tell you for sure is that when using an MSD 6AL box instead of the regular Duraspark module (with a Duraspark distributor and MSD Blaster2 coil) the coil is powered from a straight 12V source from the MSD 6AL box.
It doesn't matter what module you are using. MSD wiring diagrams use 12V to power the Blaster2 coil when running a Duraspark distributor.
