Factory gauge/heater lights
From day 1 none of the gauges or interior lighting worked in my truck... I had a dome light that worked and that was it. With time and interior cleanup I got some blue led's from Checker to mount in my gauge cluster and floor pans to light the cab up at night. I got new sending units for my gauges, oil and water as well as the fuel tank... not really sure what the deal is with the ALT gauge (btw i have all gauges, not the dummy lights in the lower corners) and i do not have the cluster with the printed circuit, two wires on the back of each gauge. speedo/odo aren't really relevant... after putting in the new sending units and such, water and oil work all the time, accurately and constantly, the fuel gauge will work every other few times I drive the truck, intermittently is the word
... so all of the lighting i've installed for night time driving has been wonderful, then last night, just out of the blue, 3 years since i've owned and been driving the truck, never has this happened, but the white light came on in the gauge cluster as well as all of the script on my heater controls lit up... then i ran out of gas, the truck shut off and when i got it filled up and running again, i couldn't get them to come back on. Now I want to just pull the bulbs wherever they are and install a few more blue led's in the system that will come on with the rest and will light up the heater control markings and such because they looked so cool! ... First question, should i replace that little box thats like a flasher or a relay or something on the back of the gauge cluster, and second, where is the bulb located on the heater controls so i can pull it and replace it with mine?

Yes, i have a bulb out on the oil/water side and in hte other shots you can see that the heater controls don't light up at all ![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)

Re: Factory gauge/heater lights
the heater socket is on the right of the back of the controls. replacing the ipvr wotn fix your problems with the lights. that is a voltage regulator for your gauges. all 4 of them. as far as the fuel gauge being intermitent that could be a badly made sending unit a loose wire. the ipvr is also adjustable to get the gauges reading corrctly. such as the fuel gauge. the alt gauge coul dbe a missign fuse near the starter relay. or some bad wiring in the alt harness. you will have to look it all over and give us a update on what you found. you can also check out the wiring diagram page to help find any possible loose wires or missign fuses. and so forth.
