Trans. hump sealant - recommendations?

Post by patrickdotryan »

All - long story, but after a problem with the wrong paint color for the rust touch ups on my floorboards, I'm going to have to remove the tranmission hump cover and original sealant to get a good blend with the original paint. Once I do that, I would like to put it back to just how it came from the factory.

What has anyone here used to mimic that same black, sticky sealant? Recommendations?

Also, is it the same stuff that was used on the seat bolt holes (lower middle of photo below)? That stuff seams harder and not sticky.

I took an idea from when I used to work for a GMC dealer (I know, that's blasphemy).

I used some 3/4" x 3/16" foam weatherstrip on mine. That way, if I DO have to pull the hump cover again, I won't have that sticky, gooey mess to deal with.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

For some reason this topic double posted, but Robroy replied to the duplicate post with an excellent link to sealing the fenders with Strip-Calk, which also looks exactly like the sealant used on the transmission hump cover. In case someone does a search for this 28 years in the future, here is his excellent thread:
