One of my oldies ('65 Econo with a 240 auto) seems like it has a pending starter failure.
All cables are good (mostly new), battery fully charged, newer solenoid, good starting switch, etc. When cranking, the starter motor will 'catch' normally, and then spin the engine/fire but the starter does not run smoothly like on all my other Fords.
I'm thinking I may have a 'dead spot' inside the starter. Any thoughts?

what do you mean run smoothly? doe sit stop for a second and then begin again? (a dead spot)?

It feels like it, yes. is there any way to test for this, or should I just spend the fifty bucks to get a decent replacement?

Replaced it....turned out to be an original starter.
So, it was high time.....Starts perfect.
