ALT light

Post by sixy »

This is probably an easy question, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Normally the ALT light turns on with the first turn of the key and goes off once the truck is started, but today it stayed on. Does this mean that the alternator isn't charging the battery?

Thanks!

wiggle the key first. then take the truck to a parts place and have them test the system for charging. most will do it for free. the regulator is the one that tells the alternator how much to charge. heck it could even be a loose alternator blet that would cause the light to stay on too.

But, to answer your original question, no, your alternator is not charging the battery.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Thanks! The belt is tight and I wiggled the key a bit, but it still stays on. I'll take it down to Advance and have 'em test it. Thanks again!
