Blower motor problem

Post by pfijma »

Hi Guys,
Happy Thanksgiving!
On my '71 Ford f250 is a dealer installed A.R.A. under dash (drivers side) A/C unit mounted (see picture).
The blower has only the High position and the off position in working order.
Is this a Switch, relay or resistor problem? Can any one help me on this were to start looking before I completely take the unit apart?
Thanks and have a nice day. Regards Paul

Pull the switch out and clean it real good with contact cleaner. See if that solves the problem.

I agree that it's a resistor problem, but with his style of underdash A/C, it's a completely self-contained unit, so it won't use the heater's resistor. This A/C unit should have it's own resistor. However, you are going to have to do some disassembly to troubleshoot and fix. The resistor should be inline between the main switch and the blower motor.

Thanks for all the help and advice, now I know where to start looking!
I live inthe Netherlands so no junkyards over her with American made cars to look for spare parts. I must order all the parts in the US.
I will have to do some disassembly to locate the problem. Will try to find some part numbers when I have found what causes the problem.
The resistor is situated in the blower motor or on the outside?
Truck is in winter storage now, will try to look at the problem within a few weeks. I will keep you all posted…

Good day Paul!

I don't have any words of wisdom on your blower issue, but I must say again, your truck's one of the most beautiful on this site! I love those colors!

Thanks Robroy, I appreciate it a lot.
I am doing the best I can to keep my truck running and and make it as stock as possible.
Truck had been valued last week for insurance. The guy said it is the nicest truck he had ever seen and for sure the best over here in The Netherlands.
Special for you another picture, shot it at a American car meeting last summer...

i don't really know anything specific about your a/c unit. i do know the factory heat resistor is behind the heater box. it is kind of hard to get to while the heat box is installed. i have no idea if and or where or how the a/c blower resistor works. it has to be intergrated with the a/c box someplace. and you should be able to get at it from the otuside of the box.
