I have a 66 352 that came out of a F100 in my 68 F250. It has the temp sender in the manifold. Do you have the hole to put one there or no? I think gauges and idiot lights might read differently but not sure.

You cannot use a sender for an idiot light for a gauge. If you do your gauge would read cold until the engine overheated than it would peg to the hot side.

to fix this problem just put the old thermostat housing and sender back on the 64 engine.

Placing the sender in the t'stat housing will give an erroneous reading. It will only be even close once the thermostat opens.

The sender needs to be in the intake manifold.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

old stat housing wont fit, it's a different diameter, guess I'll have to find an aftermarket sending unit or find a 1964 car that had gauges not lights
Thanks

BTW, Fords did not originally come with the sender in the thermostat housing, they were all originally in the manifold. If yours was in the thermostst housing somebody changed it. The hole in thermostat housing was for the TVS on 67-76 trucks (and not all of them had a TVS). Hawkrod

There should be provisions in the intake manifold for a temp sending unit right behind the distributor...maybe in your application it's been blocked off with a plug? I know some '50s-era FE's didn't have them, but I'm pretty sure yours should.

If so, it's pretty easy to simply screw in the appropriate gauge-type sending unit. Take a look at yours and tell me what you see (or don't see).

I do have that hole, it was plugged and stripped, so I put in a helicoil and replugged it because I had a much larger sending unit from a 390. The problem lies with finding a suitable sending unit, when I ordered one for the 1964 Galaxie, parts guy told me it was for an idiot light not a gauge, so I'm trying to figure out which application would have a 352 with a gauge ,so I can order the correct part.
Thanks

67 ford trucks are the only trucks that had a 352 from the factory. and they have gauges in them and soem times idiot lights. so you can order one for a 67 for gauges and you should get the right part for your truck.

65 and 66 trucks had 352's as well.

Also note that Ford guages all operate on the same system so the sending unit does not have to be from a 352. There actually only a few different versions and Ford uses the same parts for lots of stuff. For example one for a 69 Lincoln MKIII with a 460 works just fine in a 67 truck with a 352. You want Ford C6DZ-10884-B or a Motorcraft SW552 or any equivelant. It fits many other Fords including 66-69 Mustangs with a 6 cylinder or a 67-69 Cougar and a heck of a lot more so they are easy to get! Hawkrod
