dash controls and heater

Post by element7878 »

First off all the vents and ducts weren't in the truck when I got it..but I did have the motor under the dash..everything after the motor was missing..today I hooked the motor leads up and the motor ran..my question is, did these motors have speeds or were they just one speed? Also there are some more electrical connection tabs on the backside of the motor..curios as to what those are...I made my connections directly to the two wires coming out of the motor..

Not sure what the connections you are referring to go to right off hand, however the motor did have more than one speed to answer that question. IIRC it only has a high and a low setting though but that is controlled through the switch itself.

the power goes to the switch. fom th ewiper motr switch from there it goes to the resistor behind the heater box and then to the motor. the resistor controls the fan speeds. i dont think i have any pictures but here is the diagram of how the wiring goes. or how the box hooks up to it. the defrost ducts are the only other ducts that come off of the box.

yea those diagrams are confusing ha....Why would it go through the windshield wiper switch first? So the switch has two positions? I need to go see if i can find one at the junk yard...So im thinking maybe those tabs im talking about are the resistor? And im also assuming that the resistor would make it do low speed, and just direct 12v will make it do high...Like i said when i just wired it direct it spun like it was on high. Could I just run a direct hot wire to the switch and not deal with running it to the windshield wiper swich first? I may try to run the direct wire i had through those tabs first and then to the motor and see if it makes it run slower..thanks for all the help...It was pretty cold the other night driving it home from my friends without a heater...

the power for the heater swithc jumps off of the wiper switch power. and the wiper switch power comes from the wiper fuse.
