its a press fit.

they will come off. i just dont know the best way to do it.

they are splined. the only way i would approach it is to use a pair of pliers and pull like crazy or mash it into pieces.

With or without splines, grabbing something like that with pliers is the best way to ruin it.

How it comes apart I don't know.

If it was pressed, it needs to be pressed off. That means you need a press and the ability to make a holder. Probably a two-piece holder.

I just did this. I took a cresent wrech and got it as tight as I could around the shift arm, butted against the handle and tapped the wrech with a hammer. Hope this makes sense, but it worked and didn't damage the handle.
68 F-250 CS, 360 or 390?, still haven't measured the stroke, AUTO running on propane!

Just as long as you don't use a screwdriver as a pry-bar it's OK. LOL Good job. :)

Put a slice in the side with a cut-off wheel and spread the slice with a chisle.
